Space-saving desk: a work nook in a studio flat

Studio, living room, Airbnb: how to add a desk without eating the room. The fold-away wall desk does at night what a normal desk refuses.

Space-saving desk nook in a studio: oak fold-away wall desk for remote work

Remote work put a desk into rooms that never had one: a 20 m² studio, a one-bed living room, a hotel, an Airbnb. A normal desk is still there at night. A space-saving desk closes.

A small-space work nook is not a mini desk in the middle. It is a gesture: open, work, close. The floor is a living room again.

Why a normal desk fails in a studio

120 × 60 cm on the floor, plus the chair, plus the passage. In 20 m² that is a whole room. Push it to the wall: you hit your knees. Buy a slim secretary: the screen does not fit.

A fold-away wall desk frees the most expensive square metre — the floor. 100 cm wide, 50 cm high, 20 cm deep. The studio is a studio again.

Where to put a desk nook in a small flat

  • The living-room wall, out of traffic: behind the sofa, between windows, at the end of a wide hall.
  • Not in front of a radiator, a door, a shutter. The opening must stay clear.
  • A socket within reach. An LED in the cabinet (MURA 55) skips the lamp on the sill.
  • Height: open top at desk height (≈ 75 cm). You sit; you do not perch at a bar.

In a studio the best wall is often the one that looked wasted. A fold-down wall desk makes it useful for eight hours, invisible the rest.

Remote work: 100 × 50 × 20 cm

Laptop or 24" screen, keyboard, notebook. Not the printer, not the tower, not three monitors. A space-saving desk is not an open-plan bay. It is a post that disappears.

Load: 75 kg on MURA 55 — enough for screen, arms, books. 20 kg MDF fails at the first iMac. Oak blockboard takes the lever of the open top.

Studio, hotel, Airbnb: the same piece

A host wants a desk nook without losing the bed. A hotel wants a post that does not linger. A studio wants the living room at night. One fold-away wall desk answers all three: shipped assembled, one oak finish, 4 to 5 weeks.

For two rooms or an aparthotel floor, the pair (€650) lines the walls. Same gesture, same wood.

FAQ

Is a space-saving desk enough for daily remote work?
Yes if the top is 40 cm or more, with a real seat and load for a screen. MURA 55: 100 × 50 × 20 cm, 75 kg.
Can you put a wall desk in a living room?
Yes — it is the most common case. Closed, it is a panel. The living room returns at night. Choose oak over white MDF that still “looks like a desk”.
Minimum space for a studio desk nook?
The wall: 100 cm wide, 50 cm high, 20 cm deep. MURA 55 fits an 18–20 m² studio without blocking the passage.
